Subepithelial Connective Tissue Grafts

Subepitheal Connective Tissue Grafts combine the most positive features of the free gingival and pedical grafts. CTGs were originally used to build out edentulous ridges. In 1985, their use was expanded to include total root coverage in cases of severe recession on isolated and multiple teeth, especially in the maxilla where root coverage is difficult to obtain.

[Photo: Dr. James Kohner]Dr. James Kohner is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from The Ohio State University, and Case Western Reserve University Dental School, and obtained his certification in Periodontics from the Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry. He currently lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dr. Kohner is an experienced teacher who has presented courses on Soft Tissue Grafting to a wide range of audiences, including many state associations all over the US and in 8 foreign countries, and has presented at the American Academy of Periodontology meetings for many years. He has been teaching for the Perio Institute since 2003.

He is a Fellow of both the American Society of Osseointegration and International Congress of Oral Implantology, as well as an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology.
